Applying for childcare
It is your responsibility to contact the office assigning daycare, ("Pladsanvisningen" in Danish), and sign your child up for a place at a nursery, kindergarten or school. Depending on which city you live in, you should expect waiting lists so you should apply early. If the municipality cannot give you a place immediately, your child will be put on a waiting list.
The earlier you apply, the greater the chance of finding a place when you need it. However, you cannot register before the child has received his/her CPR number.
We recommend that you visit or contact different institutions in order to find one that meets your needs. Note that not all kindergartens have English speaking staff. To ensure a good dialogue with the staff you can ask for an interpreter to participate in the meeting. The cost of this will be paid by the municipality.
